"Bordering" illustrates the artist's experiences growing up near the US/ Mexico Border, and confronts the hypocrisies she witnessed from Arizonans to Mexicans. The piece depicts currency from both countries, snakes, a pharmaceutical cap, and seemingly similar landscapes that are separated by a single fence. Ultimately the piece echoes the basic human experience that we are all the same, urging us to treat each other as such. Constructed in two sections, the top, which represents the landscape, intentionally spins and screws into the base, which represents the economy.

During the concept/design phase of creating a new piece, I usually sketch it out to solidify the composition, and make sure the message is properly conveyed.
